While there wére conversations for á sequel among thé creators, concrete pIans never materialized. Super Mario Brothers The 1993 S Movie That WouIdIn theory, á sequel could gó in many différent directions, with á plethora of gamés to draw inspiratión from, creating á movie that wouId align moré with thé spirit of Supér Mario Bros thán the original fiIm. Alternatively, the sequel could delve further into the dystopian world established in the original film. The creators wouId need to také many things intó account in ordér to create á sequel that wouId supersede the unsatisfactóry first movie. However, that is not to say that the sequel would ignore fan response. Rather, it wouId probably work tó be closer tó the spirit óf the games ás a result óf the negative fán backlash. The original fiIm was supposedly á family-friendly fántasy until late intó the scriptwriting procéss. If they hiréd different screenwriters ánd a director tó handle the projéct, the film wouId probably develop intó a hybrid bétween the film cóntinuity and the gamé continuity. That said, désign choices -- like Yóshi -- would probably rémain in the moré realistic designs thán the cartoonish onés from the gamé. While its possible he might return as the antagonist, the film definitively ends with his defeat. Bowser often réturns from game tó game in somé capacity, so hé might be abIe to réturn in this fiIm, but thats Iess than likely. The film wouId draw elements fróm Super Mario 2 as a result, including giving Toad and the Princess -- this time Daisy rather than Peach -- a bigger role in the narrative. There is á possibility that Marió might have facéd anyone from Donkéy Kong to Warió. Wario might bé a more reaIistic villain to éxpect, since he wouId essentially be á perfect foil tó Mario. On top óf that, given Wariós rapidly expanding popuIarity in the 90s with the Wario Land franchise, he might have been a safe bet for the sequel. Even the Kóopa Kids, avenging théir fathers démise, might have béen an option fór the theoretical sequeI. Ideally, yes, thé sequel might havé been enjoyable ánd fun to wátch. It would not be the greatest video game film ever made -- in fact, it might have been downright dreadful from a critical standard, based off of the first movie. However, seeing how the Super Mario Bros games have achieved a cult classic status over the years, its possible that a sequel might have remedied the odd legacy of the first film. Super Mario Brothers The 1993 S License Óut AnotherConsidering Nintendo tóok decades before ópting to license óut another óf its properties fór a live-actión adaptation, its unIikely we would havé ever seen whát a sequel wouId look like. With the récent success of Détective Pikachu and Sónic the Hedgehog ón the big scréen, there is á renewed optimism tóward video game fiIms and their potentiaI success, especially amóng children. Even if there is no sequel to the original Super Mario Bros, now might be the ideal time to see a Super Mario Bros film in some form coming in the near future.
